Hard Floor Cleaning Processes

We provide specialist hard floor cleaning, sealing and polishing of, commonly used, old and new flooring.

Natural Stone Care

Granite;

Honing:

Honing is used on very worn floors that require renovation, and it is a way of smoothing the floor with industrial diamonds, to a Honed natural finish; this is a good preparation for treatment.

Honing will also remove scratches, some stains and give a more uniformed appearance.

Deep clean and Crystallisation:

To be carried out after Honing if required or as the first stage for a normally worn and soiled floor. This involves cleaning and sealing the granite with Stone Soap then using polishing powder. We use Jimmy & Stardust which is regarded as the best product on the market and is tried and tested.

This has the advantage of being a waterless system. The granite is polished by mixing the two components together, leaving a shiny, slip-resistant floor. This process can remove very fine scratches and minor staining. The floor is burnished to remove smears.

Maintenance:

This is site specific, but normally involves regular cleaning of heavy traffic areas such as main walkways, turnstiles etc. The worn areas are deep cleaned as above and the remaining areas are cleaned using Stone Soap to remove soil and burnished.

Marble/ Limestone/ Travertine/ Terrazzo

Honing:

Honing is used on very worn floors that require renovation, and is a way of smoothing the floor with industrial diamonds which will bring up more shine to the stone. Honing will also remove scratches, stains and give a more uniform appearance.

Deep clean and crystallization:

To be carried out after honing or as the first stage for a normally worn and soiled floor. This involves cleaning and sealing the stone floor with Stone Soap then using Crystallizing powder. The Hulk crystallizing powder is mixed with water and creates a chemical reaction that leaves the stone with a durable high shine finish which is also slip resistant.

Maintenance:

This is site specific, but normally involces a regular cleaning of heavy traffic areas such as main walkway and turnstiles etc. The worn areas are deep cleaned and crystallized. The remaining areas are cleaned with Stone Soap to remove soil and burnished to remove smears.

Sandstone:

This type of stone can be deep cleaned using specialist chemicals to remove soil and stains and protects if required.

Slate:

This type of stone can be deep cleaned using specialist chemicals to remove soil and stains.

Twister Pads:

Twister is a way to mechanically clean and maintain glazed floors using floor pads prepared with billions of microscopic diamonds.

The microscopic diamonds in each Twister pad will effectively clean any floor surface. Each pad carries a different size of diamond.

The Twister pad will also polish the floor and keep the shine on a glazed floor.

Normally used in conjunction with the above process this treatment is recommended for protection and good traction.

Stain resistant seal:

The entire above natural stone floor types can be treated with a stain resistant application. This creates a barrier in the stone to help prevent spillages such as tea, coffee, wine and grease from penetrating the stone hence making removal easier and with improved results.

Manufactured floor coverings

Vinyl:

This type of floor covering requires a coating on the surface to protect against damage, typically a polymer based polish.

Deep clean:

Remove old coatings using a stripping chemical. Rinse thoroughly to leave in a neutral condition. Apply a seal and a minimum of two coats of polish. Allow to dry and burnish.

Maintenance:

Clean using a neutral detergent or floor maintainer. Burnish, If heavy traffic areas are very worn a top up coat of polish can be applied.

Safety floors:

These floors typically have a rough finish to create a slip-resistant surface. Because the surface is rough it can trap soil and needs cleaning with the appropriate chemicals on a regular basis to avoid the build up of soil. After cleaning the floor is rinsed thoroughly.

Ceramic/ Quarry tiles/ composite floors:

These floors are normally cleaned with neutral detergents. For heavily soiled areas such as lime scale in toilets a more intensive clean is required using acid type cleaners. Special attention is paid to cleaning grout.

The floor is deep cleaned using appropriate machinery and rinsed thoroughly.

The floor is burnished to remove any smears.
